COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOLS is a Ministry of Education initiative which supports access to school spaces outside of school hours for local non-profit community groups.
CHATHAM-KENT AND SARNIA-LAMBTON COMMUNITY USE OF SCHOOLS Locally, the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board collaboratively endorse and encourage community use of their Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton schools. The two boards, working together under the umbrella of the Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) Agreement, support the Ministry's vision to see schools as welcoming and inclusive places for community members to come together, volunteer, build skills, access community programs, and become physically active during non-school hours.
'CLASS' AGREEMENT In 1999, in a unique partnership agreement, the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair Catholic District School Board officially signed the 'CLASS' Agreement. This Agreement outlines terms and conditions for the two organizations to work as equal partners on joint ventures in business operations. Current collaborations include: * Student Transportation * Community Use of Schools * Child Care Services
POLICY STATEMENT Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) encourages the use of schools as community facilities and recognizes that the primary use of school facilities, buildings and grounds, is for the delivery of education to students. CLASS also affirms its commitment to making school board facilities available, upon issuance of an approved permit, with due regard to the preservations of educational programs, the responsible management of costs associated with making school properties available, and the protection of all properties under the conditions as outlined in the Community Use of Schools Rules & Regulations. |
